Malaysia Airlines flight turns back to Sydney after passenger disruption

A Malaysia Airlines flight from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur returned to Sydney shortly after taking off on August 14 following a security incident on board the aircraft. Read More » Flight MH122, operated by A330-300 registration 9M-MTK, had commenced its direct flight to Malaysia’s capital a little after 1300 local time and was 70 minutes into the journey when the aircraft flew back to Sydney, landing at about 1545. Those on board said a passenger had become aggressive and started shouting at other passengers and the cabin crew, local media reported. Passengers were kept on board the aircraft for more than two hours before emergency services entered the cabin and they were evacuated. Sydney Airport said 32 domestic flights were cancelled because the incident reduced the airfield to single runway operations. The Australian Federal Police arrested a 45-year-old man in relation to the incident and said the individual would be charged.
