Thai Airways International posts US$419 million interim profit

Thai Airways International (THAI) has left the red ink of its balance sheet behind, reporting a net profit of 14.8 million baht (US$419 million) for the six months to June 30. Read More » The flag carrier had posted a net loss of 6.5 billion baht in the same six months in 2022. Operating revenue rose 73.7%, to 78.9 billion baht, THAI said in a regulatory filing. At present, the airline group operates 47 wide-bodies and 20 narrow-bodies. THAI said it expected to complete the restructuring of its business by year-end 2023. The Star Alliance member increased its network to destinations in China and Japan in the first half of the year in response to strong demand for air travel. Two A350-900s are joining its fleet in the next six weeks and will begin flying to Europe, Japan and China in the final quarter of 2023 to “accommodate traffic demand in the high season and to benefit from the recovery of the airline industry especially after China re-opened its border earlier this year.”
