Qantas Airways thickens international network; introducing more A380s to fleet

Read More » The airline is adding more of its A380s to active service and recently introduced three 787-9s to its commercial schedule. The oneworld alliance member is increasing capacity on several international routes: up gauging Sydney-Bali to A330s from single aisle 737-800s, building Sydney-Auckland-New York JFK from four flights a week to daily in August 2024 and operating the A380 on Sydney-Johannesburg from next June. The airline also is flying Melbourne-Los Angeles with the A380 and adding a ninth flight each week to Sydney-Los Angeles. “The additional capacity [largely] will be made possible because our final two A380s will be returning to the fleet after heavy maintenance and cabin improvements,” Qantas International CEO, Cam Wallace, said.
