Asia-Pacific airlines flew 25.7 million international passengers in August

Read More » International capacity, or Available Seat Kilometres (ASK), was 88.7% higher year-on-year for the 31 days, the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) said in its update. “Despite the moderation in global economic activity, demand has continued to grow in the services sectors, including travel and tourism,” AAPA director-general, Subhas Menon, said. “Forward booking trends indicate resilient travel demand in the coming months. While this augurs well for passenger business, airlines are facing higher costs, driven by inflation and recent jet fuel price rises that threaten to squeeze margins.” The latest passenger numbers represent 78.9% of the 32.6 million international passengers carried by the region’s airlines in August 2019. International ASKs were 77.8% of the capacity Asia-Pacific airlines offered in the same month four years ago.
