Biman Bangladesh seeks approval to fly to New York JFK

Biman Bangladesh Airlines has applied to the U.S. Department of Transportation for a foreign air carrier permit and approval to commence flying to New York JFK. Read More » The airline said in its application it planned to fly five times a week between Dhaka and New York JFK via Izmir in Turkey with 787-9 aircraft with a three-class configuration – 30 in business, 21 in premium economy and 247 in economy. Biman Bangladesh also listed Boston, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark and Washington D.C. as potential U.S. destinations. The application noted Bangladesh is listed by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as having Category 2 status, meaning it did not have safety oversight in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organisation standards. However, Biman Bangladesh said it believed the country would soon be upgraded to Category 1 after the FAA and the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh completed their joint work.
