Read More » Deliveries of the C919 were expected to commence in 2024 and run through to 2031. CEA said a "large number" of its narrowbody passenger aircraft currently in the fleet were due to be phased out - either retired or returned to lessors - over the delivery period. "The aircraft purchase will serve as an effective capacity supplement to the existing aircraft, which is in line with the development needs of the company’s medium- and long-term fleet planning," CEA said in a regulatory filing. "The aircraft introduced will be mainly deployed in the company’s base market, important commercial and tourism trunk routes, in an effort to enhance the company’s overall yield level." CEA's most recent market update showed it had 382 A320 family, 276 737 family, two C919s and 17 ARJ narrowbodies in its fleet.
