Asia-Pacific airlines book 98.5% increase in revenue passenger kilometres; global airline association report

In August, Asia-Pacific airlines recorded the fastest growth in air traffic across all six regions monitored by International Air Transport Association (IATA). Read More » Compared with pre-pandemic figures, global demand reached 95.7% of Revenue Passenger Kilometres (RPK) recorded in August 2019. Capacity was 96.9% of seats available at airlines four years ago. IATA director general, Willie Walsh, said ticket sales data show international bookings strengthening for travel in the last part of the year. “Heading into the last quarter of the year, the airline industry is nearly fully recovered to 2019 levels of demand,” Walsh said. “The focus has been meeting demand from businesses and individuals for connectivity that was artificially suppressed for more than two years.”
