Garuda Indonesia has operated a 737-800 demonstration flight powered with a blend of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) manufactured from palm oil by PT Pertamina. Read More » The test flight, with a 737-800 registration PK-GFX, took off from Soekarno-Hatta airport on October 4 and flew for an hour before returning to the Indonesian capital, Pertamina said. It added Garuda had run ground tests with the SAF blend before the demonstration flight. Garuda president, Irfan Setiaputra, said the test results will assist wider use of the SAF blend on commercial services. Pertamina CEO, Nicke Widyawati, said he hoped the SAF blend, produced at its Cilacap refinery, is a major milestone for Indonesia's green energy development and will contribute to the country's decarbonisation efforts.
