Finnair flights to Asia 50% of pre-COVID network

Read More » The carrier’s flights to the region continue to be impacted by Russia’s closure of its airspace to airlines from the European Union and the slow recovery of the Mainland China market. The market update was included in the company's latest financial results, published overnight, that announced a 52.5 million euro (US$56 million) net profit for its latest quarter compared with a net loss of 37.2 million euro in the previous corresponding period. “In our third quarter, the impact of the pandemic on Finnair’s operations was very mild, although the increase in travel to China after it opened its border in early 2023, remained slow,” Finnair said. “Scheduled passenger flights to Asia were 50% lower than the same months in 2019 because of the remaining impacts of the pandemic, especially the Russian airspace closure. However, the Asian market yields remained at a good level, thanks to strong demand as well as constrained capacity shaped by global labour shortages and operational challenges from longer flight times.”
