IATA survey finds 80% of special assistance travellers said airlines had met their expectations

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) said its member airlines were committed to matching the expectations of passengers with special needs and build on its 2023 Global Passenger Survey, which found 80% of passengers using special assistance services had an experience that met their expectations. Read More » “In 2019, the IATA annual general meeting adopted a resolution reflecting members’ commitment to ensure every traveller could access safe, reliable and dignified travel,” IATA deputy director general, Conrad Clifford, said. “While we all have more work to do to support the needs of our passengers with disabilities, we believe this survey result demonstrates progress towards that commitment.” The airline lobby group found more people were seeking assistance when travelling as the global population aged. “As demand for special assistance grows, we will need to find more tailored ways to meet the needs of travellers with special needs,” IATA assistant director for external affairs, Linda Ristagno, said. “We are working on ways to ensure wheelchairs are available when needed as well as the right options for the diversity of traveller needs.”
