Air New Zealand records 7.9% passenger growth in September

Air New Zealand (Air NZ) flew 1.6 million passengers on its domestic and international routes in September, up 7.9% from the 1.5 million customers carried in the same month a year ago. Read More » The Star Alliance member said capacity, or available seat kilometres (ASK), was 47.7% higher than the same month in 2022. “The overall increase in group capacity largely was driven by the resumption of the international network following the full re-opening of New Zealand’s border post-COVID,” Air NZ said. The carrier’s long-haul ASKs were higher by 94% and short-haul international ASKs increased by 20.3%. Domestic ASKs were broadly flat compared with September 2022, the airline said. Passenger numbers were 94.6% of the 1.7 million air travellers the carrier flew in pre-pandemic September 2019. ASKs were 91% of four years ago.
