Read More » The service will join the Star Alliance member's existing daily Delhi-Melbourne rotation, also flown with 787-8s equipped with 18 business and 238 economy class seats. Melbourne Airport chief of aviation, Jim Parashos, welcomed the new nonstop route to India. “Our data shows that as India’s financial capital, Mumbai is Melbourne’s largest international market without non-stop flights, so we expect this service to be very popular in both directions,” he said. “Australia and India have an open skies air services agreement that has provided Air India with the certainty it needs to efficiently announce, put on sale and launch these new flights without the uncertainty associated with bilateral agreements. Open Skies and liberal bilateral agreements provide airlines with the assurance they need to add flights and respond to trends as demand for passenger and cargo increases.” Qantas Airways also serves Delhi from Melbourne Tullamarine.
