Read More » The Star Alliance member said it expected to have up to four aircraft grounded at any one time due to the impact of a maintenance issue identified on the Pratt & Whitney (P&W) geared turbo fan engine. "While this maintenance issue does not present a safety issue, it has caused Air New Zealand to revise its flight schedule as a result of adjustments made to the engine maintenance plan,” Air NZ CEO, Greg Foran, said. “We’ve been able to reorganise most of our schedule by consolidating some flying and moving aircraft to different routes." The airline was also adding more resiliency in its fleet by stopping flying to Seoul as the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines on its 787 fleet head into the workshop for regular maintenance amid potential issues with the availability of spare engines from Rolls-Royce. Foran said the airline was looking closely at leasing additional aircraft to add more capacity to its fleet.
