AirAsia X to switch Auckland service from Sydney to Gold Coast

AirAsia X (AAX) said it planned to resume flying between the Gold Coast and Auckland with three flights a week from February 3 2024 as part of a Kuala Lumpur-Gold Coast-Auckland rotation. Read More » The start of the Gold Coast-Auckland tag will coincide with the suspension of AAX's Sydney-Auckland services. AirAsia X CEO, Benyamin Ismail, said the decision to serve Auckland from the Gold Coast instead of Sydney was made after a thorough network review. "Our network will continue to evolve based on a number of factors but primarily based on consumer demand," Ismail said. "We will continue to monitor the situation and if demand returns we will consider reinstating the Sydney-Auckland service at a later date. However for now and as a leisure-focused airline we are seeing more demand across the Tasman to and from the Gold Coast." Currently, Air New Zealand and Jetstar offer nonstop flights between Auckland and the Gold Coast.
