AirAsia Thailand parent narrows quarterly loss

Asia Aviation Public Company Limited (AAV), the parent company of AirAsia Thailand, has reported a net loss of 1.7 billion baht (US$47 million) for the three months to September 30 2023, compared with a net loss of 4.1 billion baht in the same three months in 2022. "Thai AirAsia maintained competitiveness in the domestic market while strategically allocating its fleet to international markets," AAV said. Looking ahead, AAV said the introduction of visa-free travel for citizens of Mainland China, India, Kazakhstan and Taiwan was expected to strengthen inbound demand in the current quarter and early 2024. "This should facilitate fare increases in the short-term, coupled with the potential fuel price fluctuations from the unresolved Middle East conflict," AAV said. "The company anticipates that the strong momentum of the tourism industry will continue in 4Q2023."
