Virgin Australia tops up 737 MAX order

Virgin Australia (VA) has added a further six aircraft to its 737 MAX 8 order book, lifting the total number on order with Boeing to 14. Read More » The Australian carrier received its third 737 MAX 8 late last week and the remaining 11 were due to arrive through calendar 2024. “Travel demand remains high and we continue to grow and renew our fleet, enabling us to deliver great value and choice in the market,” VA chief strategy and transformation officer, Alistair Hartley, said. “We are investing in our fleet to best meet our customers’ needs while positioning the business for success in the long-term. A more modern, sustainable, and streamlined fleet is central to our ongoing transformation." In addition to the 737 MAX 8s, VA also had 25 737 MAX 10 aircraft on order, with deliveries due to commence in 2025. In other VA news, the airline announced it was spending A$110 million (US$ 72 million) to refurbish its existing 737-700/800 fleet, which included installing in-seat power for all seats, replacing existing economy and business class seats with the same seat type on its 737 MAX 8 and adding internet Wi-Fi connectivity and streaming content to passengers' personal electronic devices (to aircraft without this facility currently), over the next 18-24 months.
