Last week, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) halted Boeing's production increase of the type. “This won’t be back to business as usual for Boeing,” FAA Administrator, Mike Whitaker, said. “We will not agree to any request from Boeing for an expansion in production or approve additional production lines for the 737 MAX until we are satisfied quality control issues uncovered during this process are resolved.” Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO, Stan Deal, said the company was “deeply sorry for the significant disruption and frustration” felt by customers following the Alaska Airlines incident and the grounding of the 737 MAX 9 fleet. “Our long-term focus is on improving our quality so we can regain the confidence of our customers, our regulator and the flying public,” Deal said in a message to staff on the Boeing website.
