Asia-Pacific airlines top global recovery table

Capacity rose 101.8% and load factor climbed 9.0 percentage points to 83.1%. December 2023 traffic was 56.9% higher compared with the previous 12 months. Globally, domestic traffic increased 30.4% against 2022. China led domestic traffic growth increasing passengers by 138.8% versus 2022 and is now 7.1% above pre-pandemic 2019. “Internationally, the strong post-pandemic rebound continued in 2023 with last December’s traffic only 2.5% below 2019 levels. A strong performance was delivered in the final quartet of the year, teeing up airlines for a return to normal growth patterns in 2024,” IATA director general, Willie Walsh, said.
