Busan-based Sirius Air Cargo was cleared to operate as an air cargo carrier on January 29, The Loadstar reports. Read More » Details of the licence reveal the carrier will lease three A330Fs and a Boeing 777F for its initial operations. Six more 777 freighters will join its fleet in the next few years with the airline targeting 10 freighters by 2027. It will commence operations from Gimhae Airport in South Korea’s second largest city to Frankfurt, Qingdao, Hanoi and Tokyo Narita in June. Future routes will be Busan to Los Angeles and Singapore next year, Chicago and Delhi in 2026 and Atlanta, Mexico City and Vienna in 2027. “Sirius Air will focus on Gimhae Airport and, as we hope to launch an airport on Gadeok Island, we expect it to contribute to reducing logistics costs for local shippers. We anticipate the emergence of new players on medium and long-haul freight routes will boost competition and provide wider choice for local businesses,” South Korea’s second vice minister for land, infrastructure and transport, Baek Won-kook, said.
