Boeing flags another delay to 737 deliveries after discovery of new fuselage issue
February 7th 2024
Boeing and Spirit AeroSystems have disclosed a “non-conformance in some 737 fuselages” was identified last week related to two holes that may not have been drilled exactly to specifications, Boeing said. Read More » “While this potential condition is not an immediate flight safety issue and all 737s can continue operating safely, we believe we will have to perform rework on about 50 undelivered airplanes,” Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO, Stan Deal, said in a message to employees on the company's website. “This issue could delay some near-term 737 deliveries, but is the only course of action given our commitment to deliver perfect airplanes every time. The days we are setting aside in the 737 program will allow our teams time to complete the inspections and, if needed, perform the necessary rework.” Spirit AeroSystems, the supplier of 737 fuselages to Boeing, is conducting an engineering review of the non-conformity and a “final disposition” is expected by the end of the week (February 9). “This process will define a course of action at that time. Any required repairs will have a recommended solution,” Spirit AeroSystems said. “Based on that engineering analysis, disruption and level of effort can be determined.”
