Qantas Group posts a 13% decline in interim net profit

Qantas Group has recorded a 13% fall in its profit before tax, to A$1.25 billion (US$ 824 million), in the six months to last December 31. Lower fares contributed to reduced revenue per available seat kilometer, resulting in a $600 million impact on profits, Qantas Group said. The carrier transported 26 million passengers in the six months, 3.3 million more air travellers than a year earlier. Jetstar, the group’s 100%-owned subsidiary, improved its pre-tax profits by 84%, to A$325 million, from $177 million a year earlier. As capacity returns to pre-pandemic levels, the group expects to be managing higher industry costs in the second half of its financial year, to June 30.
