Regional industry association reports commercial carriers flew 27 million international passengers in January

Demand, measured in revenue passenger (RPK), was higher by 48.3% year-on-year and capacity expanded 51.3% compared with a year ago. International passenger load factor averaged 79.9% for the month, a decline of 1.6 percentage points in the 31 days. “The upcoming year looks broadly positive for the region’s carriers, given renewed optimism about the global economic outlook. However, as capacity restoration progresses, airlines face intensifying competition. In addition, the cost environment remains challenging as inflationary pressures continue to be felt from supply chain issues,” AAPA director general, Subhas Menon, said.
