Air New Zealand halts Chicago route due to “ongoing challenges” with Trent 1000 engines

Read More » The suspension is the result of “ongoing challenges” with the availability of the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines that power the route’s 787-9s, the flag carrier said. Impacted passengers are being rebooked on an alternative connecting service through another U.S. city. “It is not a decision we have made lightly and we are sorry to make this change so close to the time when some customers plan to fly,” Air NZ chief customer and sales officer, Leanne Geraghty, said. “Unfortunately, Air New Zealand continues to be impacted by challenges with the availability of Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines, meaning we will have up to three aircraft unavailable for an extended period, so we have had to review our schedule.” The Star Alliance member said it is maintaining 35 flights a week to six destinations in North America. Operators of Trent 1000 engines have been impacted by durability issues with the Rolls-Royce power plant since 2016.
