Mainland regulator update sheds little light on cause of China Eastern Airlines crash

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has said the investigation into China Eastern Airlines (CEA) flight MU5735 was ongoing. Read More » The 737-800, registration B-1791, was flying from Kunming to Guangzhou on March 21, 2022, as flight MU5735 when it lost altitude and crashed in mountains west of Guangzhou. There were no survivors among the 123 passengers and crew. A final report has yet to be released, but the CAAC said late last week its investigation team is studying the aircraft structure, flight control system, engine and other wreckage and the flight recorders data. The CAAC said it also is continuing to conduct experimental verification and cause analysis, with relevant information to be released in a timely manner based on the progress of the investigation.
