Asiana Airlines last 747-400 retired from fleet

Read More » The Star Alliance member's final commercial service with the aircraft commonly referred to as the “Queen of the Skies”, was on March 25 when 747-400 registration HL7428 operated the OZ711/712 rotation between Seoul Incheon and Taipei Taoyuan. The aircraft, which received water cannon salutes at Incheon and Taoyuan, is retired after 25 years of flying with the South Korean carrier. The aircraft’s first flight departed Seoul-Gimpo for New York JFK on June 2, 1999. It has flown 88 million kilometres, the equivalent of about 2,500 laps around the globe, Asiana said. Captain Kim Jae-ho, who was the pilot-in-command on the farewell flight, said the 747-400 was the first aircraft he had flown and he was sad and regretful he would no longer fly the aircraft, a translation of his comments posted on the Asiana Airlines website said. Captain Kim expressed his gratitude to all passengers who took the last flight with him. At present, airlines operating 747-400 passenger flights include Air China, Lufthansa, Mahan Air and Rossiya Airlines.
