China Eastern Airlines posts US$1.1 billion annual net loss

China Eastern Airlines (CEA) has reported a net loss of 8.2 billion yuan (US$1.1 billion) for the 12 months to December 31 compared with a 37.4 billion yuan net loss in the previous year. Read More » Revenue rose 145.6%, to 113.7 billion yuan, CEA said in a regulatory filing. “As the national economy rebounded, China’s civil aviation industry ushered in a crucial year for consolidating its foundation, cultivating new growth and resuming development after the transition from COVID-19 prevention and control,” CEA said. The Shanghai-headquartered airline group plans to improve its hub competitiveness and strengthen its international transit passenger operations. “Based on the premises of improving market competitiveness, the company will plan in advance the peak season market by flexibly allocating resources such as air network, flights and aircraft types,” CEA said.
