Asia-Pacific airlines report 28.2 million international passengers for March

Asia-Pacific carriers transported 28.2 million international passengers in the latest reported month, up 37.5% from the 20.5 million international passengers flown across the region in the matching period in 2023. Read More » Capacity was higher by 38.6% year-on-year, while passenger load factor was steady at 82%, the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) said. “March saw another healthy expansion in passenger and cargo markets, culminating in a strong first quarter 2024 performance,” AAPA director general, Subhas Menon, said. “For the three months, the region’s airlines registered a 47% year-on-year increase in passengers carried, fuelled by a surge in demand for leisure and business travel.” Despite the positive start to the year, Menon said “the airline operating environment is challenging, marked by international conflicts, extreme weather events and supply chain issues that increase cost pressures on carriers due to re-routings, flight diversions and disruptions”, The results represented 86.9% of the 32.4 million passengers Asia-Pacific airlines transported in pre-COVID March 2019.
