Qantas Group abandons Garuda Indonesia code-share plan

Qantas Airways has shelved plans to establish code-sharing with Garuda Indonesia, Australia's International Air Services Commission (IASC) said in a website statement. Read More » In September 2023, Qantas asked the IASC, which manages Australia's traffic rights, to allow Garuda to add its GA airline code on Qantas flights between Australia and Indonesia. In April, the IASC rejected the application. It ruled it was likely to consolidate the dominant market positions of Qantas and Garuda on Australia-Indonesia routes. Late last week, the IASC said Qantas was no longer pursuing its application. “Due to a change in operational circumstances since the application was submitted, Qantas has withdrawn its request to vary several determinations to permit the use of capacity allocations on the Indonesia route for code-sharing with Garuda Indonesia,” the IASC said.
