Qantas Airways suspends Sydney-Shanghai, boosting network to Southeast Asia

Qantas Airways is withdrawing from Shanghai, its sole destination in China, due to low demand and will upgrade capacity to Singapore, Manila and India. Read More » Sydney-Shanghai Pudong will shut down on July 28, less than a year after the oneworld alliance member resumed the service last October. “Since COVID, demand for travel between Australia and China has not recovered as strongly as expected,” Qantas CEO international, Cam Wallace, said. “In some months, our flights to and from Shanghai have been operating around half full. It is why we have decided to suspend the route and boost flying to other popular destinations.” Qantas will increase Sydney-Singapore to 17 times weekly from December 11 and Brisbane-Singapore to nine flights a week from October 27. Australia’s flag carrier also will launch four times weekly Brisbane-Manila on October 28 and increase Sydney-Bengaluru to daily from December 2024 to March 2025.
