Japan and South Korea agree to mutually recognize aviation certificates and approvals

Last week the representatives of Japan and South Korea signed a Bilateral Arrangement for the Promotion of Civil Aviation Safety during the three-day Japan-Korea Aviation Cooperation Conference hosted in Sendai by The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) of Japan with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) of Korea. Read More » According to the document, both parties will mutually recognize certificates and approvals relating to the airworthiness approval and monitoring of Civil Aeronautical Products, the continuing airworthiness of in-service aircraft, the approval and monitoring of design and production organizations, the environmental approval and environmental testing of Civil Aeronautical Products, and the approval of persons involved in maintenance, and flight operations. During the conference, the representatives of Japan and South Korea also established a bilateral working group for cooperation in the areas of new technologies for aircraft and equipment that can contribute to net-zero carbon emissions. These technologies include electrification, hydrogen-powered aircraft, weight reduction and fuel efficiency improvement, and other necessary areas.
