China’s C919 and ARJ21 aircraft complete first SAF flights

Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) have announced on Wednesday an ARJ21 and a C919 have completed their first demonstration flights with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Read More » The flights, operated with SAF and aviation kerosene (Jet A-1 fuel) at a volumetric ratio of 40%, departed from Shanghai Pudong Airport and Dongying Airport in Shandong, respectively, on June 5. Each of the aircraft flew for more than an hour using SAF. The fuel aboard the two test flights was produced from bio-jet fuel production technology independently developed by Sinopec. The SAF was manufactured with restaurant leftover “gutter oil” converted to bio-jet fuel at Sinopec's Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Company, China’s first industrial facility to produce bio-jet fuel.
