Air China investing in Chongqing international hub expansion

Read More » The Star Alliance member will increase its 30 domestic destinations from Chongqing to 62 in the short-term and open at least 10 new international routes, including three or four more to Europe and the U.S., in the next five to six years. At present, eight international routes fly from Chongqing. Air China told Yicai it has submitted its plans for the ambitious expansion to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for approval. In 2022, the CAAC announced the development of a world-class airport cluster in western China concentrated in Chengdu in Sichuan province and Chongqing. Chongqing’s provincial government will build a new international airport, in addition to operating its existing Jiangbei International Airport, to serve the new hub planned to connect Southeast Asia, South Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the U.S.
