China Eastern Airlines records robust rebound in outbound travel

China Eastern Airlines (CEA) said international travel demand from China showed no signs of easing in May. Read More » The SkyTeam alliance member transported 1.3 million passengers beyond China in the month, up 236.8% from the 396,750 passengers it flew a year ago. “For the international market, outbound travel continued to recover rapidly,” CEA said in its monthly traffic report. “The company actively grasped the opportunity in the recovering international market to speed up capacity and focus on accelerating transportation deployment to Japan, Southeast Asia and other markets,” the Shanghai-based airline said. CEA's international capacity increased 161.2% in the 31 days compared with a year earlier. Overall, CEA flew 11.4 million passengers in May, 17.9% higher than the 9.7 million passengers it carried in the same month in 2023. Its domestic network grew by 7.7%, to 9.8 million passengers, CEA said.
