China Airlines to fly fifth-freedom Melbourne-Auckland in peak year-end season

Read More » To be flown by three class A350-900s, the route will operate as a Taipei Taoyuan-Melbourne Tullamarine-Auckland rotation and will join CAL's existing Taoyuan-Brisbane-Auckland service. The SkyTeam alliance member will be competing with Air New Zealand, Jetstar and Qantas on the Melbourne-Auckland leg. “Having a fourth airline on this important route is fantastic news for travellers because of the extra choice it offers in both product and schedule,” Melbourne Airport chief of aviation, Jim Parashos, said. “Additional services and increased competition are critical when we are seeing softening passenger numbers as a result of cost-of-living challenges and still high airfares.”
