Australia reports 16.5% increase in international air travellers

In April, air travellers flying into and out of Australia improved by 16.5% (3.2 million) from 2.8 million in the same month in 2023. Read More » Despite the year-on-year increase, international passengers processed through Australia’s airports were 7.7% below the 3.5 million air travellers arriving and departing Australia in pre-pandemic April 2019, Australia's Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) reports. Capacity for the month was higher by 15.4%, at 4.1 million seats, compared with April 2023. Capacity was 94.8% of the 4.3 million seats available five years ago. Qantas Airways retained its position as the country's leading international airline by passengers with a 17.1% market share, ahead of Qantas Group LCC, Jetstar (12.5%). The country's largest foreign carrier in the 30 days was Singapore Airlines (8.9%), followed by Air New Zealand (7.3%) and Emirates Airline (5.6%).
