Air China and China Southern Airlines welcome 919s into their fleets

Read More » They are the latest Mainland airlines to introduce the locally manufactured single aisle type to their operations. Each of China’s “Big Three” state-owned airlines has ordered 100 C919s. Chinese media reports the next carrier to receive the first of its ordered C919s is HNA Aviation Group subsidiary, Suparna Airlines. The airline’s ground maintenance personnel have completed their preparation for deliveries of the jet and the airline’s cockpit and cabin crew will soon begin familiarization training of the type. HNA Aviation has confirmed orders for 60 C919s, to be shared equally between Suparna and sister carrier, Urumqi Air. Suparna will be the first airline in the world to only fly the type, HNA Aviation has said. Tibet Airlines, which has committed to acquiring 40 C919s, will be the launch customer of the jet’s variant designed for high altitude flying. In 2023, COMAC deputy general manager, Zhang Yujin, said the company plans to increase its production of the C919 to 150 a year by 2029.
