Steady demand growth narrows China Eastern Airlines losses

China Eastern Airlines (CEA) has reported a net loss of 2.8 billion yuan (US$390 million) for the six months to June 30 compared with a 6.3 billion yuan net loss a year ago. Read More » Revenue improved 29.7%, to 64.3 billion yuan, CEA said in a regulatory filing. “China’s civil aviation passenger transportation continues to improve,” CEA said. The Shanghai-based airline group forecast steady demand growth, but added challenges that are impacting the market include “localized and temporary overcapacity in the domestic passenger transportation market” and uncertainty in the recovery of some international passenger sectors.
