Cathay Pacific A350 turns back from Zurich bound flight after experiencing “issue” with a Rolls Royce engine

Cathay Pacific Airways is conducting a fleet-wide inspection of its 48 A350s after identifying a Rolls-Royce engine component failure that forced a Zurich bound A350 Cathay Pacific aircraft to return to Hong Kong shortly after its September 2 departure. Read More » A number of its aircraft will be out of service for several days while this process is being completed resulting in the cancellation of 24 return flights to date, the airline said. “All customers have been informed and provided with alternative travel arrangements. For any further cancellations, we will have another update as early as possible tomorrow (September 3),” the airline stated.
“Following the inflight return involving Cathay Pacific flight CX383 to Zurich earlier today (September 2), we identified an engine component failure with the A350 in question. Cathay Pacific has fully complied with all maintenance requirements of the engine manufacturer and stringent maintenance procedures are in place to ensure our fleet is always operated safely. This component was the first of its type to suffer such a failure on any A350 world-wide,” an airline statement said. “This thorough inspection process is well under way and will be completed today. Thus far, we have identified a number of the same engine components that need to be replaced. Spare parts have been secured and repair work is underway.”
