Taiwan plans 35% increase in navigation service charges

Taiwan’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) intends to increase transit service fees in Taipei’s Flight Information Region (FIR) by 35%. Read More » At present, the country’s Civil Aviation Administration charges NT$10,000 (US$310) per transit flight. The price has not changed for 17 years, the government said, and emphasized the FIR service fee is significantly lower than in neighboring East Asia nations. In 2023, despite the post-pandemic travel recovery, revenue from Taipei’s FIR service was NT$1.9 billion, falling short of the NT$2.4 billion peak in 2019. The higher charge is estimated to generate annual revenue of NT$$3 billion with the new fee structure to apply by early next year at the latest. In 2023, more than 600 flights passed through the region daily.
