Global airline association rolls out Enhanced Policy and Finance Net Zero path ways

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has released its updated Policy and Finance Net Zero Road Maps emphasizing the importance of strategic policy sequencing. The recommendations recognize there is no one size fits all solution and that policies must ensure all countries participate in the global Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) market, IATA said. The Finance Road Map calculates investments necessary to reach net zero CO₂ emissions by 2050. “The costs and challenges associated with the energy transition are large, but the opportunities are even greater,” IATA’s senior vice president sustainability and chief economist, Marie Owens, said. “Countries have an opportunity to build new industries in agriculture and energy and benefit from the catalytic growth impact of sustainable air transport.” “The updated IATA Policy and Finance Net Zero Road Maps make it clear de-carbonization by 2050 is possible. They also sound a warning bell that to achieve this goal all stakeholders, particularly policymakers, must collaborate more broadly and act with greater urgency,” IATA director general, Willie Walsh, said.
