Asia-Pacific airlines lead passenger demand expansion in August

The International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) data for August shows air passenger demand in the Asia-Pacific is continuing to be robust and is only eight percentage points away from pre-pandemic volumes. Read More » The region’s carriers reported a 19.9% year-on-year increase in demand measured. Capacity was higher by 18.8% year-on-year and passenger load factor was 85.2%, a +0.8ppt increase compared with August 2023. Traffic numbers for the monitored month more than doubled the global average; up 8.6% against 12 months earlier. Total capacity expanded 6.5% year-on-year and load factor was 86.2%, +1.6ppt compared with August 2023 and a new record high post-pandemic. “The market for air travel is hot and airlines are doing a great job in meeting growing demand for travel. Efficiency gains have driven load factors to record highs while the 6.5% capacity increase demonstrates resilience in the face of persistent supply chain issues and infrastructure deficiencies,” said IATA director general, Willie Walsh.
