Japan Airlines and Garuda Indonesia setting up joint venture in early 2025

Read More » The two flag carriers said the JV will strengthen their relationship by setting flight schedules and managing revenue as if they were a single company. It will be the first time oneworld alliance member JAL has established a JV with a carrier belonging to another airline alliance. “This partnership signifies a major step towards strengthening aviation ties between the two countries. It aims to expand our business presence and enhance connectivity between Indonesia and Japan,” Garuda Indonesia president and CEO, Irfan Setiaputra, said. “We are confident this partnership will deliver important benefits to our customers and grow business between Japan and Indonesia,” JAL president and group CEO, Mitsuko Tottori, said. Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism for Anti-Trust Immunity (ATI) has approved the JV. Separately, broadcaster NHK World has reported All Nippon Airways (ANA) is formalizing a similar partnership with Singapore Airlines. Japan's major carriers are initiating strategies to build international passenger traffic mid increasingly difficult conditions in their domestic market.
