Aircraft shortages force Air New Zealand to cut capacity in August

Read More » In its latest traffic report, the Star Alliance member said its long-haul Available Seat Kilometres (ASK) had declined 8.9% year-on-year, short-haul international ASKs decreased 2% and domestic capacity was lower by 8.4%. “The reduction in capacity is a result of aircraft availability,” Air NZ said. Passenger numbers were down 5.9%, to 1.1 million, in the reported month compared with 1.2 million air travellers a year ago, the flag carrier said. Revenue per Available Seat Kilometer (RASK), a measure of demand, declined 4.7% in the 31 days and long-haul RASK by 1.5%. “Some Asian routes benefitted from improved yields in the current year,” Air NZ said. “However, North America is still impacted by intense competition compared with the matching days in 2023.”
