Read More » The Asiana Airlines environmental, social and governance (ESG) report said Asiana Airlines had 8,698 employees in 2021, but numbers had steadily declined to 8,045 last year. In 2021, approximately 4,500 employees were under 40. In 2023, they stood at 3,600. In contrast, employees aged over 40 gradually increased during the same period. Recently, the airline’s unionized pilots sent an official letter to the European Commission urging it to withhold approval of the merger, announced four years ago, citing concerns about potential restructuring of Asiana’s workforce. At the same time, Asiana’s cargo union workers strongly opposed their compulsory transfer to Air Incheon. “Even if legal procedures for the merger end soon, it will take much more time for Korean Air’s management to settle such disputes with Asiana employees,” an unnamed industry source said.
