Thailand’s airlines to increase peak season capacity after appeal from government

Six airlines based in Thailand are acceding to a government request to add more than 73,000 seats to total capacity in the upcoming holiday weeks, Bangkok Post reports. Read More » Thailand’s transport minister, Suriya Jungrungreangkit, said the ministry has asked Thai Airways International (THAI) and member carriers of the Airlines Association of Thailand (AAT) - Bangkok Airways, Thai AirAsia, Nok Air, Thai Lion Air and Thai Vietjet Air - to increase capacity on flights from Bangkok to 14 key destinations, including Chiang Mai, Phuket and Udon Thani during the holiday weeks in anticipation of super-charged demand. AAT member carriers will add 247 flights, or 48.244 seats, to targeted Thai cities from December 26 to January 5. Additionally, from early next month to the second week of January, THAI will operate larger aircraft from Bangkok to the key destinations of Phuket, Krabi, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai that will add 25,144 more seats on the routes.
