ASEAN stopover rights available to member states in 2025

A regional protocol allowing airlines of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states stopover rights is planned to go live next year, Malaysia transport minister, Anthony Loke Siew Fook, told reporters in Kuala Lumpur last week. Read More » The initiative, Protocol 5, was adopted by ASEAN transport ministers and their counterparts in China, Japan and South Korea at a meeting in Kuala Lumpur late last week. Protocol 5 will allow airlines to fly to destinations within ASEAN via an intermediate point also in ASEAN and build on the open skies agreement of the association's member states, Loke said.
