Read More » The new wide-body, registration 9M-MNG, landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) after a ferry flight from Airbus in Toulouse this past weekend. The A330neo was escorted into Kuala Lumpur by a Royal Malaysian Air Force Sukhoi Su-30MKM and executed a fly past over the city before being welcomed to KLIA with a water cannon salute. Lessor Avolon has leased the 20 aircraft, powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, to Malaysia Airlines parent, Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG). Ten of the aircraft are from Avolon’s order book and the remaining ten are being placed with MAG via sale and leaseback agreements. “With global supply of wide-body aircraft extremely limited, these aircraft are a core element of MAG’s fleet renewal strategy, allowing it to capitalise on the continuing recovery in the Asian aviation market,” Avolon CEO, Andy Cronin, said. The oneworld alliance member will commence commercial operations of the A330neo, equipped with 28 business and 269 economy seats, on its Kuala Lumpur-Melbourne Tullamarine route.
