Japan Airlines completes trial of AI-powered cabin baggage analyser

Japan Airlines (JAL) is considering utilizing Artificial Intelligence technology to analyse the amount of carryon baggage on its flights following completion of a six month trial with NEC Corporation. Read More » The trial was conducted at Gate 13 in Tokyo Haneda Airport’s Terminal 1 from April to September this year where the effectiveness of AI-powered technology in determining when carryon bags will exceed available overhead storage space was evaluated. “Based on the results of this trial, JAL is exploring methods for implementing the solution,” the airline said. “This data can help develop concrete measures to prevent departure delays due to baggage storage and the reloading of baggage in the cargo compartment. JAL will continue utilizing digital technology to ensure smoother boarding, improve punctuality and optimize the overall customer experience.”
