Asia-Pacific led air passenger growth in October airline association reports

International Air Transport Association (IATA) October data shows Asia-Pacific carriers have maintained their lead in international passengers transported. Read More » The region’s airlines delivered a 17.5% year-on-year increase in demand, capacity expanded by 17.2% against October 2023 and passenger load factor was 82.9%, 0.3ppt improvement over a year ago. Overall, Asia-Pacific airlines recorded 12.7% growth in demand and a 9.7% increase in capacity, the best result of the six regions worldwide IATA monitors. Globally, total demand was up 7.1% compared with October 2023, total capacity was better by 6.1% year-on-year and October load factor was 83.9%, 0.8ppt more than 12 months ago. “Continued strong and stable demand is good news, but just as important is the steady improvement in load factors. It shows what a great job the industry is doing in flying people more efficiently. Average seat factors have risen from around 67% in the 1990s to more than 83% today,” IATA director general, Willie Walsh, said.
