United Airlines seeks approval to fly Los Angeles-Beijing

United Airlines (UA) has filed an application with the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to start nonstop three times a week Los Angeles-Beijing Capital airport from next May 1. Read More » The UA application said there were “ample” frequencies available to accommodate its request and pointed out U.S. airlines remain below the 50 flights a week cap for air services to and from China. “United’s proposal will give consumers and shippers an additional gateway and importantly, time-of-day choices for U.S.–Beijing travel,” the airline’s application said. “United’s proposed Los Angeles-Beijing route will operate at opposite ends of the day to UA’s San Francisco–Beijing services," the airline added. At present, Air China is the only airline flying nonstop between the two cities.
